e-mobility SMART grid for passengers and last mile freight transports in the Alpine Space

The decarbonisation of the transport sector needs interoperable roll-outs of electric vehicle charging infrastructures as well as an intelligent charging management to prevent peak loads.

While electrification of private transportation has continued to expand constantly, ambitions should move forward towards electric vehicles solutions in Last-Mile-Logistics and the Local Public Transport, with electricity generated from renewable energy sources.

The electrification of transport brings together many different stakeholders. In e-SMART, they brainstorm ideas and discuss challenges in a double level Regional Living Labs scheme (local & transnational). These networking events are regularly organized by city partners in all the five countries and develop road maps as a unique transnational vision, but implementing practical regional solutions. The Operational road maps, indeed, are customised and focus on regional and local needs, objectives, and business models to properly address incentives and finance sources. Once developed they have been validated by the local Regional Living Labs. While the operational road map focuses on local implementation, the e-SMART tactical road map establishes the direction of a common transnational approach in the Alpine Space. It supports public decision makers to plan an adequate charging infrastructure with private actors in order to meet electric vehicle demand in last mile freight logistic and local public transport, and act as a guideline for constructive interaction, horizontal participation and collaborative empowerment.
e-SMART supports also the development of data platform models for public administration for the integration of data from different data providers related to mobility and energy issues, by means of the development of a demo toolkit that links existing platforms to provide sound indicators for decision makers, as a decision supporting system.
