projects - Power System Research - Three year plan (2022-2024)

Energy efficiency of industrial products and processes

The goal of the project is to facilitate the spread of energy efficiency and decarbonization in the industrial sector by developing product and process technologies, with the purpose of achieving the growth targets set by national and international policy documents.

The project has several distinct and synergistic lines of research.

Strategic studies are carried out to examine energy transition and decarbonization in the national manufacturing and agribusiness sectors, with the aim of identifying development models capable of decoupling economic growth and environmental impact. Activities focus on the development of methods, tools and solutions to strengthen the industrial leadership and resilience of strategic value chains.

At the same time, the project carries out research aimed at supporting the efficiency of selected production processes in the path of energy transition and toward the creation of a competitive and technologically advanced industrial environment. Specifically, continuing that initiated in the previous three-year RdS period, research is conducted on the following topics:

  • development of membrane systems for the production of technical gases in high-temperature processes
  • thermal recoveries and their exploitation in next-generation heat networks,
  • relationship between efficiency and environmental compatibility with innovative and efficient technologies and solutions for monitoring and eliminating pollutants in emissions
  • ex-ante modeling studies of innovative systems applicable to domestic geothermal energy, enabling the energy source to be exploited more efficiently
