RisEnergy – Research Infrastructure Services for Renewable Energy

The RISEnergy project aims to create an ecosystem to accelerate innovation in renewable energy sources and related technologies, in line with Europe’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions targets.

To achieve this objective, RISEnergy facilitates the access of researchers and companies to research infrastructures in European and non-European countries. It is the first project of this scale in Europe, covering all areas of renewable energy technologies: photovoltaics, concentrated solar energy, hydrogen, biofuels, wind energy, ocean energy, integrated energy networks, energy storage, materials research, and Information and Communication Technologies.

RISEnergy brings together a consortium of 69 beneficiaries from 22 countries: ERIC institutions, technological institutes, universities, and industrial partners, and aims to enable proactive innovation management, as well as provide transnational access to the consortium’s facilities (84 research infrastructures from 19 European countries, United States, Canada and Japan) to support the development of renewable energy and provide quality services for academia, industry, and SMEs. The main objectives of RISEnergy are:

  • enable research and innovation to improve energy efficiency and reduce the cost of energy technologies to promote wider use of renewable energy in energy systems;
  • provide efficient transnational access to facilities to support the development and innovation of renewable energy technologies and systems through the provision of more than 2,500 days of access to 87 leading European and international research facilities;
  • reach all stakeholders carrying out research along the value chain, from materials and technology development to applications in eight relevant fields (photovoltaics, concentrated solar energy, hydrogen, biofuels, wind energy, ocean energy, as well as integrated networks, energy storage), research infrastructure providers and policymakers
  • provide comprehensive services of unprecedented quality and a one-of-a-kind, tailor-made access point for academia, industry, and SMEs.
