Assessment of Typical Meteorological Year for Hybrid Renewable Offshore Energy Systems: An Italian Case Study

This article introduces a methodology for defining a dataset specifically designed for techno-economic analyses of offshore hybrid systems that integrate photovoltaic and wind energy. The methodology is demonstrated through a case study at the Buoy MOBI site in the Sicily Channel.

Efforts to harness renewable energy sources, particularly in the wind and photovoltaic sectors, rely heavily on accurate assessment methods. This article introduces a methodology for defining a dataset specifically designed for techno-economic analyses of offshore hybrid systems that integrate photovoltaic and wind energy.

A key element of these analyses is the concept of a Typical Meteorological Year (TMY), a standard widely used in various sectors, including residential modeling for heating and cooling expense assessments. In this context, the TMY represents long-term weather patterns essential for offshore hybrid renewable energy systems.

The methodology is demonstrated through a case study at the Buoy MOBI site in the Sicily Channel.
