Evolution of the pan-European transmission system towards the development of a prospective global power grid

This article contributes to studies related to the development of the future transmission system in Europe. Attention was focused on certain specific long-term analyses (2040) from a pan-European perspective.

Attention was focused on certain specific long-term analyses (2040) from a pan-European perspective. The studies were conducted by extending a pan-European zonal model. An optimization tool was applied after preparing an adequate framework for long-term scenarios for the pan-European system. Some effects related to the extension of the geographical coverage of the pan-European zonal model were evaluated. This evolution can be considered a crucial step in the development of the northern part of a potential global electricity grid.
