Impact of nuclear supply outage on the European electricity system

This article examines the impact on the European electricity system of a failure to supply generation from nuclear sources due to outages. To this end, a scenario was developed for 2030, considering simultaneous detachments of nuclear generation plants for 15 GW. The scenario analysis was performed by implementing the PLEXOS simulation tool. The results of the application of the model show that the effects of the unavailability of a significant number of nuclear generation plants include an increase in electricity prices and a 12% increase in CO2 emissions.
