Coal phase-out and interconnection with the mainland will significantly affect the supply of frequency regulation services in Sardinia. It is therefore interesting to verify that reserve requirements are met.

The future generation park of Sardinia and the prospect of interconnection with the mainland are of fundamental importance in the supply of frequency regulation and system balancing services. Taking into account the decarbonization process with the phase-out of coal power plants envisaged by the National Integrated Plan for Energy and Climate “PNIEC” and the planned reconstruction of the SA.CO.I. HVDC connection to the mainland, it is interesting to verify the adequacy of the Sardinian system in relation to the satisfaction of primary, secondary and tertiary regulation requirements.
