Research Infrastructure integration to foster Smart Grid testing

RSE has improved the experimental capabilities of its research infrastructure through integration with other European laboratories, facilitating the implementation of new control and management algorithms (also developed and managed by third parties) and optimizing its use by external users and also internal researchers.

The possibility of expanding the potential and capabilities of smart grid laboratories through cooperation between research institutes and the integration of their infrastructures has been clearly demonstrated by the ERIGrid project.

The project integrated 18 European research centers, including RSE, and developed common methods, concepts and procedures for smart grid applications. RSE provided the ERIGrid project with its infrastructure: the Distributed Energy Resources Test Facility (DER-TF), a large-scale experimental microgrid, suitable for testing smart grid solutions.

New tools have been successfully tested and proven both among project partners and external users, demonstrating the possibility of extending widely the experimental potential of smart grid laboratories. The article describes the integration of remote research infrastructures and a successful case of adoption of the HTD template for test description by external researchers which allowed for the best use of the RSE framework.

Thanks to the participation of ERIGrid, RSE has significantly improved the experimental capabilities of the DER-TF through easy integration with other European laboratories, facilitating the implementation of new control and management algorithms (also developed and managed by third parties) and optimizing the use of research infrastructures by external users and also internal researchers.
