RSE research on the Resilience of the Electricity System

After an excursus on the reasons that require improvements to the resilience of the electricity system, the article illustrates RSE’s international activities and research results.

Climate change is causing an increase in adverse meteorological phenomena, with in many cases devastating effects on the electricity infrastructure and consequent disruption to users. The system should be reliable for ordinary events, but also be able to overcome more intense and less frequent events. In this context, there emerges the urgent need to address globally the problem of the resilience of the electricity system in the face of critical events. Improving the resilience of the electricity system is the focus of all the main international sector associations and RSE research contributes to this effort at all levels. After an excursus of the reasons that require changes to the system management methods, the paper illustrates the international trends and the results of RSE’s research activities to evaluate and improve the resilience of the electricity system.
