Simulating electrical trees propagation using a kinetic model and cellular automata

In this work, treeing structures were generated for specific configurations. The relationship between micro-defects and channels was also analyzed.

Electrical treeing is a damage mechanism in solid polymeric insulating systems. There are different approaches to modeling the propagation of electrical treeing. One method posits that trees propagate due to mechanical deformations produced by the electric field. An example of this approach is the kinetic model, which proposes that treeing progresses by linking internal micro-defects within the material.

This model has been used to determine the time to failure; however, the modeling of treeing propagation has not yet been addressed in the literature. In this work, treeing structures were generated for specific configurations, and the relationship between micro-defects and channels was also analyzed.
