The proposal of a new standard for the measurement procedures of CPV/PV hybrid modules

The purpose of this paper is to introduce and motivate the need for a new work item proposal (NWIP) on ‘Hybrid CPV/PV Modules: General Characteristics and Measurement Procedures.’

Hybrid CPV/PV modules include CPV solar cells designed to collect concentrated light and photovoltaic solar cells designed to collect diffuse or global light. The determination of the nominal power, as well as an energy measure, for such photovoltaic modules is complicated by the fact that, in some cases, the power is a strong and discontinuous function of the angle of incidence (AOI). For this reason, the IEC 61853 and IEC 62670 standards do not sufficiently cover the specific requirements and procedures that are necessary for the performance evaluation of CPV/PV modules. The standard conditions for evaluating the power produced by hybrid CPV/PV modules must also be differentiated from those used to characterize flat or CPV PV modules. This contribution therefore presents the motivations behind the new work item proposal on ‘Hybrid CPV/PV modules: general characteristics and measurement procedures.’
