The Role of Market Facilitator – How DSO-Owned Energy Storage Systems can Support Private Resources in Ancillary Services Market

The paper addresses the issue of asset utilization in support of grid operations, without interfering with the market dynamics (of energy and ancillary services) to which its participants are subject.

The article presents a new business model in which the distribution system operator, playing the role of market facilitator, manages its energy assets (including energy storage) proactively, using them to support distribution resources in participating in ancillary services markets.
