This report provides a summary of the work carried out by the Italian team, led by RSE, in the FlexPlan project during the year 2022.

This work mainly consisted of three lines of activity:

• elaboration of the Italian regional case: completion of the database and development of the simulations for the three decades 2030, 2040 and 2050;
• elaboration and implementation of the algorithm which provides for the decoupling of the transmission planning problem from the one of the distribution networks. This led to the formulation of a “coordinated” planning methodology which is also proposed as a possible operational methodology for the actual interaction between transmission and distribution operators;
• creation of an open-source library which applies the planning methodology proposed by FlexPlan. This library replicates the main functions performed by the toolbox created by the project partner N-SIDE, except for the part of the pre-processor and the graphical interface. Due to its open-source nature, this library lends itself to being used for research and development studies.
