This System Research report is the most up-to-date version of the User Manual of the medium-term electric system simulator sMTSim. The latter was developed by RSE in the framework of System Research in 2011, as a stochastic version of the pre-existing MTSim simulator .

Subsequently, over the years and always within the scope of System Research, various functions necessary for the different scenario studies carried out have been added, such as:
• the possibility of managing a portion of renewable production as dispatchable;
• the possibility of defining optimal unit commitment and dispatching of traditional sources (hydroelectric and thermoelectric sources) taking into account the reserve requirements of the Electricity System;
• modelling of generation from thermodynamic solar sources.

In this last year of System Research, other important features have been added:
• a post-process to improve the distribution of overgeneration between market areas,
• modelling of the response of demand to price signals (Demand Side Response).

It is therefore considered necessary to issue a new updated and harmonised edition of the user manual that collects all the evolutions of the model developed to date.
