The collaboration with the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) carried out during the three-year research period made it possible to complete the development of the anemological database at the basis of the new Italian Wind Atlas. The database consists of 30 years of data at hourly time steps and spatial resolution on the order of 1 km over the entire Italian territory, including marine areas, at different heights above the ground. The approach used is based on a combination of meteorological modeling and statistical post-processing, thanks to which the database could be generated in good time and with a significant saving in terms of computational resources, while maintaining an adequate level of reliability. Furthermore, a first qualitative comparison was conducted between the outputs of the new database and the original Wind Atlas, using as an additional term of comparison the New European Wind Atlas (NEWA), currently the most cutting-edge product in wind atlases encompassing the Italian territory.
