Profile “Researcher / Researcher – Monitoring of meteorological quantities and processing of extreme events”

Position

The selected resource will be included in the “SFE – Sustainable Development and Energy Sources” Department of RSE and will provide its contribution in research activities, both in the field and in the laboratory, relating to the impact of extreme weather events on the resilience of the electricity system.

In particular, it will mainly deal with:

aspects of meteorological monitoring that require the development and application in the field of data acquisition systems;
processing of the information acquired, or from other sources, to establish their connection with the effects produced by weather events on the electricity grids;
monitoring of solar radiation.

 

Profile sought

The candidate must have a master’s / specialist degree in one of the following addresses (Degree Classes): Environmental and Land Engineering (LM35), Electronic Engineering (LM29), Automation Engineering (LM25), Navigation Sciences and Technologies (LM72), Physics (LM17).

Good knowledge of the national electricity and energy system and good knowledge of at least two of the following areas are required:

electronics and electrical engineering;
programming languages ​​for processing, configuration of acquisition systems, exchange protocols and data networks;
database for storing the acquired measurements;
meteorology and data processing / interpretation.

At least two of the following skills / experiences are also required (acquired through degree thesis and / or work experience, suitably verifiable):

design / construction
/ maintenance of meteorological data acquisition systems;
development, at hw / sw level, of data acquisition systems for monitoring physical and meteorological quantities that impact on high and medium voltage electricity networks;
interfacing of signals or data produced by analog and digital sensors;
use of the instruments typical of an electronics laboratory.

 

Also required:

ability to work independently and for objectives;
aptitude for innovation and experimental activities;
good interpersonal skills and strong communication skills;
ability to draw up technical notes relating to the activities carried out;
good command of English and Italian.

 

Minimum requirements

The possession of a master’s / specialist degree in the aforementioned Degree Classes constitutes a minimum requirement for inclusion in the offered position.

The actual possession of the knowledge, skills and experience required above is also a minimum requirement, to be necessarily documented in the CV, which can also be ascertained during the interview.

 

Additional elements of interest (preferential requirements)

With the same evaluation of the elements of the profile required (minimum requirements), the following may constitute a preferential title:

significant experience in the areas of activity specified above;
experience of activities in the laboratory and / or in the field;
knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems and some programming languages ​​(Labview or equivalent, SQL, C / C ++, Perl, R).

 

Selection process: written test

The selection process for the profile “Researcher / Researcher Monitoring of meteorological quantities and processing of extreme events” involves the carrying out of a written test (in Italian, lasting approximately one hour), aimed at verifying the level of knowledge and / or skills required for the position offered. Candidates admitted to the written test will receive confirmation by e-mail (within one week of the closing of the call) of their convocation according to the modalities and timing to be defined, depending on the evolution of the emergency situation caused by COVID-19.

Only if the number of candidates eligible for the selection process is less than 20, RSE reserves the right to evaluate the direct passage to the interview phase, thus the cancellation of the written test. In this case, the admitted candidates will be contacted to make an appointment for the selection interview.
