Greenhouse Gas Monitoring Laboratory (Plateau Rosa)

The laboratory at Plateau Rosa constantly monitors greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4, H2O) and certain meteorological parameters in accordance with the guidelines of the European ICOS project.

Located at Plateau Rosa (3480 m a.s.l.), at the CNR’s Testa Grigia Station, it is part of the ICOS project as a Level 2 measurement station.

The station is unmanned, so data are acquired automatically and transmitted systematically to the RSE office daily and, in specific formats, to ICOS.

Instrumentation calibration checks are carried out automatically using reference standards provided by ICOS and measured on a predetermined timescale.

Results and procedures are accessible through a dedicated archiving system for operators.

The distinguishing feature is the ability to provide accurate and precise long-term measurements, with data stored in a database and, in part, available for viewing on the OASI and ICOS websites.
