RESEARCH GROUP MISSION

Analyzing PQ phenomena in medium- and low-voltage distribution networks. Developing, through studies and modeling, control systems for power electronics equipment aimed at integrating DG and storage systems for improving PQ in distribution networks. Analyzing and modeling active DC distribution networks, studying and experimenting with the coordination of protections in AC and DC active networks.

ACTIVITY FIELDS

  • Architecture, management and control of distribution networks: new architectures, systems and methods for monitoring, control, diagnostics and management
  • Interaction and integration with storage systems and distributed generation
  • Automation of distribution networks: coordination of protections in active distribution networks and analysis of effects on quality of service and operating procedures (e.g. isolation, fault)
  • Monitoring and analysis of the quality of electricity supplied to the user, PLC applications and second generation Smart meters
  • DC switches for meshed networks, AC/DC conversion systems, inverters and PQ improvement devices
  • Studies and simulations for active AC and DC distribution networks: microgrids, ship systems, isolated systems
