Time Traveling Towards a Climate-Neutral Society: An Interactive and Immersive Experience

The European Union aims to achieve climate neutrality by 2050—a zero greenhouse gas emissions economy. RSE conducts research in the field of electric energy with a particular focus on national strategic projects funded by the Power System Research Fund. This activity covers the entire supply system with an experimental, application-oriented, and system-based approach. The immersive e-REAL time-travel experience leverages RSE’s expertise, offering interactive and immersive experiences that effectively utilize communication and raise awareness about the European Union’s goals.

The European Union aims to be climate-neutral by 2050, achieving an economy with net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. This goal is central to the European Green Deal and aligns with the EU’s commitment to global climate action under the Paris Agreement. The transition to a climate-neutral society is both an urgent challenge and an opportunity to build a better future for all. Every sector of society and the economy will play a role, from energy and industry to mobility, construction, agriculture, and forestry.

The European Union is leading the way by investing in technological solutions, aligning actions in key areas such as industrial policy, finance, and research, while ensuring social fairness for a just transition. As a European country, Italy has committed to maximizing the use of tools that collectively enhance energy security, environmental protection, and economic accessibility of energy, thus contributing to European energy and environmental goals. To achieve these outcomes, RSE has co-designed with the Instructional Design Team of Logosnet and the teams of e-REAL Multimedia Graphic and Software Engineering an immersive and interactive experience based on a time-travel journey to a climate-neutral society—implemented within a portable e-REAL lab—to promote various communication campaigns.

RSE is engaged in research activities in the field of electric energy, with particular focus on national strategic projects supported by the Electric System Research Fund, which encompasses these objectives. The work spans the entire field with an application-oriented, experimental, and systemic approach. The e-REAL time machine leverages RSE’s expertise, enabling interactive and immersive experiences that powerfully convey relevant communications and raise awareness about the European Union’s goals.
