projects - Power System Research - Three year plan (2000-2002)

Environmental compatibility

The Project aims to:

  • support, in terms of information and methodologies, the assessment of the current state of environmental compatibility of the electrical system and the external (environmental, social, economic) costs related to it, thanks to the availability of both operational methodologies for the analysis of the impact of the electricity system and environmental status indicators, and knowledge regarding the effects of the electrical system activities on the environment, through systematic research combining experimental monitoring activities with modeling simulations;
  • identify and develop management methodologies aimed at continuous improvement of the environmental performance of the entire electrical system;
  • define and evaluate a set of performance indicators aimed at the quantification of environmental improvement and comparability of the performance of different operators in the electricity sector;
  • identify possible concrete interventions to mitigate national climate-changing gas emissions within the scope of reduction targets;
  • verify the impact of climate variability on the management of the electrical system;
  • identify the pressure factors of the electricity system on biodiversity and deepen the knowledge of the mechanisms of action of these factors, identifying pressure mitigation procedures, and develop protection and enhancement measures within the system itself.
