Accuracy and Calibration of Instrument Transformers with Digital Output

The article presents the problems relating to the accuracy and calibration of instrument transformers with digital output, both in the laboratory and in the field. It takes into consideration the accuracy requirements in both IEC and IEEE contexts and reviews laboratory setups characterized by high metrological performance.

An update is provided on the EURAMET EMPIR Futuregrid II research project, showcasing the latest activities to enable the deployment of digital instrument transformers as part of grid evolution. Finally, examples are presented of the use of low-power instrument transformers with digital output for verifying the field calibration of other instrument transformers.
