Development of a DB for organizing technology data for multienergy systems

The present report describes the development process of a database supporting modeling for multi-energy planning, focusing on collecting and providing detailed information on various involved technologies. Furthermore, the report introduces recently devised tools designed for both populating and querying this database. Their intended purpose is to streamline and enhance the transparency of accessing pertinent information and parameters.

The evolution of the energy sector, aiming to mitigate the environmental impacts of non-renewable sources, has highlighted the crucial need for optimal planning for efficient and sustainable resource management. In this context, optimization models of energy systems have played a fundamental role in balancing costs, emissions, and environmental impacts, promoting a sustainable energy transition.

The success of multi-energy modeling relies on two fundamental components: methodological robustness on one side, and the quality and availability of technological data on the other. While the methodological-modeling component is addressed in another report related to this project, the purpose of this deliverable is to present the implementation process of the technology database.

We started with a review of Italian energy databases concerning energy technologies, so as to develop a product complementary to available tools and aimed at providing support for multi-energy modeling.

The database is developed hierarchically, and its flexible structure allows for easy access to parameters shared by different technologies, as well as targeted queries for specific parameters. Currently, the database includes all elements necessary for the multi-energy model developed in this project. In view of an expansion in terms of parameters and technologies, an interface has been developed to facilitate its population.

Next year, it will be evaluated the development of a prototype for semi-automatic querying of the database and preparation of input files for the multi-energy model, aiming to streamline and enhance the efficiency of the modeling process.
