Set-Up of a new coordinated process for ancillary services provision from DSO to the TSO: an innovative approach to the exploitation of flexibilities connected to the distribution grid

The article presents in detail the Italian demonstrator developed for the EU-SysFlex project, with the aim of analyzing technologies and algorithms for facilitating the use of distributed flexibilities to provide ancillary services to transmission networks.

The contribution describes in detail the network and resources considered in the Italian Demonstrator implemented as part of the EU-SysFlex project, in which advanced Smart Grid devices are integrated with SCADA and optimization platforms. The ultimate goal is to provide flexibility from local resources to the TSO on the ancillary services market, considering the needs and constraints of both the TSO and the DSO. The main functionality is the calculation of the aggregate reactive power capacity underlying the network interface between TSO and DSO (HV/MV substation), based on current network conditions. The demonstrator uses some photovoltaic generators, one storage, two OLTCs and two STATCOMs.
