Hydropower at the center of Brussels Hydropower Day2025

RSE talk on the effects of climate change on future hydropower generation in Europe.

RSE took part in Brussels Hydropower Day 2025 on April 8, which aimed to provide a platform for stakeholder groups in the hydropower sector and decision makers in the European Commission and Parliament, who are working on relevant policy files concerning hydropower.

Opportunities and obstacles to hydropower deployment in the framework of the energy transition were discussed, considering uncertainties regarding the energy crisis, climate change, and the market as well as regulation conditions. In addition, the meeting was an opportunity to bring together the different voices of hydropower in Europe to try to unify them so they can be better heard by policymakers.

The event was organized by ETIP HYDROPOWER to which RSE gives its contribution by actively participating in the Governing Board (whose co-chair is Antonella Frigerio, Deputy Director of RSE’s Sustainable Development and Energy Sources Department) and working groups:
– WG1 – Hydropower role for flexibility and storage;
– WG2 – Hydropower and Biodiversity;
– WG3 – Hydropower and Climate Change (adaptation and mitigation).
RSE contributed to the event with Arianna Trevisiol’s presentation focused on the Effects of climate change on future hydropower generation in Europe and by participating in the final panel discussion.
