The now inescapable and no longer postponable energy transition, to which Europe and Italy have committed themselves, poses a number of challenges, including that of operating the electricity system with a prevalent presence of non-programmable renewable sources, and that of drastically reducing greenhouse gas emissions even in the sectors where the use of electricity is particularly arduous.

In this context, in addition to the prospect of a relevant use of electrochemical storage systems, the subject of several publications resulting from the collaboration between ANIE and RSE in the past few years, the opportunity to use hydrogen, a technological option capable of contributing to the achievement of sustainability goals and fighting climate change, is becoming increasingly clear.
