Focus on the economic impact of decarbonization on home heating, comparing electric heat pumps with gas boilers.

RSE has published a new monograph titled “The Cost of Energy Transition for the End-Consumer,” the result of an analysis gathering various studies and expertise around the question of whether the energy transition will be economically sustainable for the end consumer. This is a crucial theme for the success of the transition itself because it cannot be realized without the involvement of the end consumers.

In the monograph, the evaluation is applied to a specific case study that is very significant for the consumers in our country: the economic impact of decarbonization on home heating, comparing electric heat pumps with gas boilers.

The characteristic of the analysis described in this monograph is to develop an evaluation of the total cost of the service for the end user, starting from a complete reconstruction of the components that will make up the future price of energy (natural gas and electric energy) for the end consumer. To do this, we relied on a detailed analysis of the “anatomy” of current costs, paid in the bill, and we estimated their evolution, referring to medium and long-term scenarios of the energy system (including the PNIEC scenario).
