Chemistry Laboratory

The Chemistry Laboratory carries out activities aimed at the synthesis and characterization of new materials for energy, particularly storage systems and coatings for application to components of high voltage lines.

The chemistry laboratory houses a variety of instruments suitable for the synthesis and characterization of materials for energy.
In addition to the more commonly used equipment (technical and analytical scales, stoves, muffle furnaces, hot plates etc.), it has laminar flow hoods for conducting organic and inorganic syntheses safely. It is also equipped with a climatic chamber to be able to carry out operations at controlled and repeatable temperature and humidity.

The laboratory also has numerous analytical instruments such as an elemental analyzer, an ICP-optical emission spectrometer, a UV-Vis spectrophotometer, and an FT-IR spectroscope, used in the characterization of new materials for storage and thin films. There is also a tensiometer for measuring the surface energy and hydrophobic properties of materials and a dip-coater for thin film deposition. A solids processing room is also set up in the chemistry laboratory where there are several mills and crushers for coarse to fine grinding of solid materials and a vibrating screen for separation by particle size.
