Concentrator Photovoltaic Systems Prototype Development Laboratory

To maximize solar energy production, the laboratory at the RSE headquarters in Piacenza designs and develops prototypes for photovoltaic systems. These include components such as pointing sensors, innovative solar tracking systems, hybrid CPV-FV modules, and circuit boards to connect photovoltaic modules to inverters.

The laboratory’s main activities include:

  1. Characterization of concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) modules in the dark to measure parameters such as ideality factor, temperature, series and parallel resistance.
  2. Assembly and testing of electrical, electronic and mechanical components.
  3. Development of new methods to diagnose photovoltaic strings and optimize the maximum power point (MPP) that can be implemented in inverter firmware.
  4. Measurement of current-voltage characteristics of bifacial modules subject to partial shading and fouling.
  5. Measurement of current-voltage characteristics of prototype photovoltaic modules for integration on vehicles, using Vehicle Integrated PhotoVoltaic (VIPV) technology.
