Focus on TIDE in the new issue of RSE ‘APE – Appunti di Energia’

The Energy Systems Development Department’s latest in-depth look at the Integrated Text of Electricity Dispatching.

A new issue of RSE ‘APE – Appunti di Energia’ series was released.

This month Cinzia Bonaldo and Francesco Gulotta, researchers from RSE Energy Systems Development Department, Energy Markets Regulation Group, present the TIDE [Integrated Text of Electricity Dispatching], i.e. the pivotal reform of electricity dispatching in Italy.

The TIDE is an all-encompassing document that aims to combine both pre-existing regulations with more innovative inputs. In particular, it has two main objectives:

  1. ensure the security of the electricity system of the future;
  2. rationalize all regulatory aspects related to dispatching.

The major innovations introduced by the TIDE include:

  • the overcoming of the concept of relevance of production units – as a result, all resources technologically capable of providing ancillary services may be enabled possibly through aggregation;
  • the revision of the taxonomy used to classify individual units and aggregates for participation in the energy and redispatch/balancing services markets.
  • In line with European regulations, the Balance Responsible Party (BRP) and Balancing Service Provider (BSP) roles have been introduced, with detailed tasks and responsibilities.
