RSE in Bologna for Renmad Biometano Italia 2024

Focus on technologies, biomass and regulations to address the 2030 challenge.

RSE participated in Renmad Biometano Italia 2024, which was held in Bologna on November 20 and 21.

Luigi Mazzocchi, Director of the Generation Technologies and Materials Department, chaired the prestigious panel discussion titled “From biogas to biomethane: the future of the sector”.

During the discussion, the various technical and regulatory options for the development of the biomethane sector were examined. The sector has experienced a very strong growth in recent years, but it also has has the ambitious goal of achieving enough renewable gas production to replace 10 percent of current fossil natural gas uses by 2030.

The event’s conclusions pointed out that this challenge can be successfully addressed through an integrated approach that includes:

  • optimal use of available biomass (agricultural, livestock, and organic fraction of waste);
  • adoption of innovative and more efficient digestion techniques;
  • overcoming of regulatory uncertainties in the connection between the Guarantees of Origin system and the Emission Trading System.
