Evolution of the Electrical System

In relation to the technological and environmental compatibility aspects, the Subproject aims to evaluate the functionality of FACTS devices as a means of increasing the capacity of transmission systems.
As far as reliability is concerned, the Subproject’s objectives are to address issues related to the adequacy of the composite ‘generation-transmission’ system.
Finally, the Subproject examines the evolution of planning methods in response to reforms in the electricity sector.
The 2001 activity focuses on the evolution of generation plants and, more generally, on the increase of exchanges on the transmission system.
In this context, the Subproject aims to identify solutions to increase transmission capacity that have a reduced impact on the environment and to assess the sensitivity of the TTC against some critical system parameters such as the scope of connections and/or the location of generation/load.
In the same area, another objective of the Subproject is to assess the link between imports from abroad and the expected efficiency recovery in the Italian electrical system.
Regarding the sector reform, the link between the tariff system for the transmission service and the development of the electrical systems is addressed; with regard to reliability, the activity related to the adequacy of the composite ‘generation-transmission’ system continues.
The 2002 activity aims to evaluate possible scenarios for the evolution of the Italian electrical system taking into consideration the compatibility with the environment, the economic efficiency, the transformations imposed by the reform of the electricity sector, and the interaction with supply problems
