projects - Power System Research - Three year plan (2009-2011)

International collaborations and development of nuclear expertise

RSE’s objective in the project is to contribute, together with ENEA, the universities and new dedicated structures, to the rebuilding at national level of a technical, licensing, management and control capacity for the new nuclear power plants that can be built in Italy.

In the short term, the contribution will be aimed at supporting public institutions, in particular the Ministry of Economic Development (MiSE), on issues related to the resumption of nuclear power (technological choices, regulatory aspects, site selection criteria); in the medium term, at developing the skills and tools necessary for the regulatory and licensing processes of new plants, with a predominant focus on plant safety but also taking into account aspects of component qualification and impact on the electricity grid; and in the long term, at active participation in international programs for the development of Generation IV reactors. The project takes advantage of the synergy with numerous European research projects of which RSE is a partner ASAMPSA2 (7th FP), SARNET 2 (7th FP), ELSY (6th FP), CP-ESFR (7th FP), GETMAT (7th FP).
