Assessing the Impact on Grid Infrastructure of Electrification Pathways for the Italian Residential Sector

The article uses the methodology already developed by Besagni in the MOIRAE model (MOdel to compute the energy consumption of the Italian REsidential sector) to analyze scenarios for the development of electricity consumption by 2030 according to different dynamics of progressive electrification of residential services; the article concludes with an analysis of the governance and infrastructure aspects necessary to promote the transition.

The electrification of services is a strategic step towards achieving the decarbonization objectives defined in the international Paris agreements. This step will have effects on electrical loads, which is why we need to evaluate its impact.
