Cybersecurity-Enabling Technologies: Digital Applications in the Energy Transition

Data exchanges and cybersecurity obligations are mandated by energy regulations and cybersecurity legislation. This article examines Italy’s experience with the implementation of IEC standards for securing Distribution System Operator(DSO)–Distributed Energy Resource (DER) communications.

As part of RSE’s participation in Advisory Group AG 22 of the IEC 57 Technical Committee, the May/June 2024 issue of the IEEE Power & Energy journal includes the article “Cybersecurity-Enabling Technologies” on the Italian experience related to the specification and adoption of standard cybersecurity technologies in the Italian regulations for the data exchange required by the grid code on observability of electrical distribution networks connecting distributed generation facilities.
