‘Mobility as a Service’ Solutions for Public Transportation: the Case of the Como Metrotranvia

An analysis was carried out for the introduction of a MaaS solution in the Italian scenario with reference to the Swiss SBB experience. The results prove its feasibility, both from a technical and cost point of view.

Over the past few years many public administrations have made it one of their main goals to effectively tackle traffic and pollution issues through combined mobility solutions. A study was carried out on this aspect. The phase involved the selection of the case study, the Como metro-tramway, for similar initiatives already undertaken in the neighboring Swiss territory. An analysis was carried out about the introduction of a MaaS solution in the Italian scenario with reference to the Swiss SBB experience. The results prove its feasibility both from a technical point of view, as there are already fragmented solutions integrating services that can serve as a basis, and from a tariff point of view, due to the substantial monetary equivalence.
