Towards a comprehensive framework for V2G optimal operation in presence of uncertainty

As the global fleet of Electric Vehicles continues to grow, the Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) paradigm is gaining increasing attention.

From the perspective of the grid, aggregating electric vehicles can serve as flexible loads capable of providing balancing services. Calculating the optimal daily charging schedule for all vehicles in the fleet is particularly challenging due to numerous sources of uncertainty.

This work considers uncertainties arising from arrival and departure times, electricity market arrivals, and service outcomes. We propose a comprehensive optimization framework to address day-ahead planning that encompasses various use cases. We adopt a robust paradigm to enforce constraints and an expectation paradigm for the cost function. For all constraints and cost terms, we propose an exact formulation or a very tight approximation, even considering piecewise linear battery dynamics. Numerical results validate the theoretical findings.
