2019 Summary Report of project 1.6 “Energy Efficiency of Industrial Products and Processes” – 2019 Activities

This document summarizes the path and results of research activities RSE carried out in 2019 as part of project 1.6, aimed at promoting the diffusion of energy efficiency in the industrial sector in a transition economy context. The research was developed with a view to contributing to technological development and the removal of barriers that hinder its development, pursue growth goals and respect international energy and environmental policies.

This document summarizes the results of research activities performed in 2019 as part of the 1.6 project for fostering the diffusion of energy efficiency in the industrial sector in a transition economy context. The research was developed with a view to help

removing the barriers that hinder technological development, pursue growth objectives and respect international energy and environmental policies. This is a strategic issue for the coming decades, and is inextricably linked to international and national energy and environmental policy issues, as confirmed by Directive (EU) 2018/2002 on energy efficiency, which clearly establishes that the implementation methods of EU energy goals must pursue energy efficiency. RSE’s decade-long expertise in this field led, in this project, to important research on energy efficiency in the industrial sector, in support of energy policies of public institutions (MISE – Ministry of Economic Development, ARERA – Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and Environment, etc.) and in support of energy consumption reduction projects promoted by other stakeholders (Confindustria, trade associations, etc.), as well as the dissemination of best practices in the world of businesses and services, in order to facilitate the transposition and full implementation of energy and environmental policies; studies were also carried out for the experimental verification of efficient technologies in the context of industrial processes; analyses were conducted on the suitability, application potential and future market penetration of Italian industries and the energy efficiency of production processes, with particular reference to widely distributed or energy intensive products or services. The activities were therefore mostly oriented toward technological development regarding the efficiency of the national industrial sector.
