Creation of a demonstration platform for Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT)

In recent years, DLT/Blockchain technologies have been increasingly developed for the certified registration of information, i.e. for the traceable and non-modifiable storage of data. The document describes the development of a demonstration platform, based on Ethereum, Algorand and Hyperledger Fabric technologies, for the implementation of a Proof of Concept relating to the notarization of the values of polluting emissions produced by generation plants.

In recent years, DLT/Blockchain technologies have been increasingly developed for the certified registration (notarization) of information. The electrical-energy sector can also greatly benefit from the use of these technologies for the management of applications in different contexts. In particular, in the activity described here a platform was developed, based on Ethereum, Algorand and Hyperledger Fabric technologies for the implementation of a Proof of Concept relating to the notarization of polluting emissions measurements produced by energy generation plants, such as thermoelectric power plants. Each solution has its own characteristics that must be considered to identify the technology that best allows the requirements of the specific application to be met. Starting from the analyses presented in 2019, a demonstration platform was designed and developed for the evaluation of open and distributed (permissionless) blockchain solutions or of (permissioned) blockchain solutions reserved for a limited and defined group of subjects referring to the specific use case.

The report describes the demonstration platform for the notarization of documents produced by AEDOS (Open Source Data Acquisitor and Processor) concerning polluting emissions generated by production plants. There is, in fact, the need to develop a system that allows us to guarantee the integrity and non-repudiation of documents produced by the AEDOS system, so that the control authority is able to access measurement information at any time, without modifications. We identified the main functions necessary for the development of the

Proof of Concept, described the basic services necessary for operation through the DLT/Blockchain platform and the technologies available for implementation.

Afterward, the construction of the demonstrator, based on containers, and its installation in a Cloud Computing infrastructure is described. In detail, RSE private Cloud platform was chosen in order to be able to execute and analyze the different solutions in the same realistic test environment.
