Implementation of power system data set with nodal representation for planning applications

A nodal data set of the Italian electricity system has been set up to support planning analyses based on sequential Optimal Power Flow. The data set, subjected to preliminary testing, has been prepared for the NewRemark+ program aimed at adequacy studies and the calculation of benefits in planning. The functions necessary for managing the data set in preparation of the input data to NewRemark+ have been specified.

With the aim of improving a nodal study approach to transmission and generation system planning analyses, a data set of the Italian electricity system has been prepared, to be used by sequential Optimal Power Flow tools. The data set has been set up to be acquired by the NewRemark+ tool, performing benefit analyses of network expansion planning interventions; therefore, specifications of the functions to obtain NewRemark+ inputs have been worked out.

The data of the national electricity network are based on a prospective scenario for the year 2027. The transmission network at 400 and 220 kV is very detailed and comprehensive of localization of load, generation, and import/export terminals.

The generation system has been aligned with the relevant production units included in the ENTSO-E Transparency Platform 2021. The thermoelectric park has been characterized following the ENTSO-E (ERAA 2021) indications. The hydroelectric park has been further detailed with the information available in the HESCI database, while the wind farm data have been integrated with the information collected by RSE during the preparation of the Wind Atlas. The profiles of the load, of the non-dispatchable productions, of the natural hydroelectric contributions and of the energy imported/exported from abroad were obtained from the 2021 operational data report published by Terna (Transparency Report) and from the 2021 Energy Markets results. Data on the network and generation elements availability were found in the documents published by ENTSO-E (ERAA) and Terna.
