This report describes the activities concerning the studies and scenario analyses on the long-term development of the national electricity and energy system, carried out considering the most recent issues as well as the most significant ones for institutional bodies and for the main stakeholders of the energy system and markets. In particular, the following two studies carried out in 2019 are reported:

  • The final version of the policy energy scenario built to support the integrated National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) and in line with the objectives defined by the European energy policy for 2030;
  • the impact analysis on the electrical system of the new NECP energy scenario with the identification of the main critical issues and the proposal of possible solutions to be implemented while also quantifying the necessary investments. In particular, the results of the Accumulations Work Group, launched in 2018 by the MISE and involving TERNA and RSE, which was responsible for assessing the needs of new accumulation systems in the electrical system in 2023 and 2030, are reported.
