“EmiLab” Emissions Laboratory

EmiLab (Emissions Laboratory) works in the field of pollutant emissions and diffuse emissions. It conducts Proficiency Tests on this topic and carries out experiments to develop methods for the measurement and characterization of instruments for the determination of pollutants released into the atmosphere.

The EmiLab carries out Proficiency testing through the LOOP pilot plant. It also carries out experiments aimed at calibrating instruments and developing methods for measuring environmental parameters in emissions from combustion plants (e.g., thermoelectric generation, incineration, co-incineration, biomass).

The laboratory uses sample gas mixtures with which it is able to produce a specific sample atmosphere needed to characterize instruments, or carry out proficiency tests, through an automatic dynamic dilution system.

The laboratory can characterize or calibrate (in accordance with but not accredited under 17025:2017) devices for measuring gas concentration, flow rate, and volume, and isokinetic samplers.

The laboratory is equipped with primary sample instruments for measuring temperature (platinum resistance thermometers), for measuring barometric, absolute, and differential pressure (piezoelectric transducers), and a primary sample thermo-hygrometer (chilled-mirror) for measuring dew point and relative humidity.
