Efficiency and emission monitoring – normative activity for 2022

The report describes the national and international pre-normative activities in relation to industrial emission monitoring.
Activities were been carried out that contribute to overcoming possible barriers and making the Italian emission control environment more competent, including dissemination and the development of a prototype device for emission monitoring, called ‘AEDOS 2.0.’

A significant proportion of energy and industrial processes in our country is still linked to combustion techniques and characterized by the emission of various pollutants into the atmosphere, the monitoring of which requires sampling and analytical methods that need to be adequately regulated in order to ensure their validity, repeatability and reproducibility.

Presiding over regulatory and legislative panels is essential to enable the timely circulation of critical information and harmonization of national requirements with the various transnational partners.

Pre-normative activities are thus strategic because they can make the guidelines of other member countries known in time and bring national interests to the ISO and CEN panels. In addition, national policies on environmental standardization can be directed in good time.

RSE carried out the following activities during 2022 as part of pre-normative activities and their possible concrete applications to the ‘real’ life of plants:

  • Active participation as National Experts and/or coordinators in industry Working Groups and Technical Committees, including UNI GL4 ‘Emissions and Air Quality,”’ CEN TC 264 ‘Air Quality’ and ISO TC 146 ‘Air Quality’ and in experimental fine-tuning of the measurement method of non-standard pollutants.
  • Participation in the activities of CEN TC 264 WG 41 ‘Electronic sensors for odorant monitoring’ for which RSE is coordinator.
  • Implementation of actions to disseminate industry knowledge through distance learning tools and publication of guidelines.
  • The implementation of an open source system for environmental data acquisition according to the new draft standard EN 17255 through the construction of a prototype device, named ‘AEDOS 2.0.’
