Main Achievements in Sic solar cells,
a Comparison with the State-of-the-Art
cSi solar cells have been developed under APOLLON for CPower mirror based spectrum splitting system. The
development of concentrator cSi solar cells for automated assembly, based on edge solder contact and on hybrid
“laser grooved and planar contact approach”, cost effective, reaching effciency value of 20.5% @ 30 X with a
yield=95%, represent a remarkable improvement with respect to the state of art.

In order to increase the effciency of the LGBC silicon solar cells under the spectrum splitting systems, the
solar cells were optimised by improving spectral response in the IR portion of the solar spectrum, in particular by
optimizing the ARC coating thickness, by decreasing emitter resistivity and by enhancing back contact refectance
through polished rear back contact, dielectric passivation and a refective metal surface. Several processes were
developed and optimized by NAREC and ENEA as shown in Figure 17.
