The main results of the project are: Investigation of three scenarios for HVDC transmission: the submarine HVDC link between the Italian Peninsula and Sardinia, the connection of off-shore wind-farms to the Netherlands and a possible new link between France and Spain.

Development of a software tool for evaluating the socio-economic and environmental benefits and impacts of HVDC transmission. The tool has been applied to the above mentioned scenarios (also with the contribution of CESI / CESI RICERCA).

Development of a physical understanding of the evolution of space charge in DC insulation under a range of temperatures and charging conditions and production of a computer model for space charge evolution and field distributions in DC insulation systems Production of a macroscopic computer model for the prediction of the charging behaviour of dielectric interfaces in multi-layer mini-cables and in medium voltage size joints.
