Green eMotion – Development and demonstration of a unique and user-friendly framework of a unique and user-friendly framework

Within the Green Cars Initiative launched in the context of the European Recovery Plan, the European Union supports research and development of road transport solutions that can promote the use of renewable and non-polluting energy sources.

In this context, the Green eMotion project is a joint effort of 42 partners from industry, the energy sector, electric vehicles manufacturers, municipalities as well as universities and research institutions. The project aims at the creation of a commonly accepted and user-friendly framework for electro-mobility in Europe. The Smart Grids development, innovative ICT solutions, different types of Electric Vehicles (EVs) as well as urban mobility concepts will be taken into account for the implementation of this framework.

Ten ongoing regional and national electro-mobility initiatives will be connected leveraging on the results and comparing the different technology approaches to ensure the best solution prevail for the EU single market. A virtual marketplace will be created to enable the different actors to interact and to allow for new high-value transportation services as well as EV-user convenience in billing (“EU Clearing House”). Furthermore the project will contribute to the improvement and development of new and existing standards for electro-mobility interfaces. The elaborated technological solution will be demonstrated in all participating demonstration regions to prove the interoperability of the framework.

As a result, policy makers, urban planners and electric utilities will receive a reference model for a sustainable rollout of electro-mobility in Europe. Major players from industry, the energy sector, municipalities as well as universities and research institutions are involved in the project. By proving efficient and user-friendly solutions which are also profitable for businesses, the Green eMotion framework plans to accomplish EU wide acceptance of all stakeholders.
