Network of Excellence for a sustainable integration of European research on nuclear severe accident phenomenology and management

All Research activities are still necessary to reduce uncertainties that are considered of importance for nuclear power plants safety and to consolidate severe accident management plans. Several European R&D organizations, including technical supports of safety authorities, industry, utilities and universities, have joined their efforts in SARNET to resolve outstanding severe accident safety issues for enhancing the safety of existing and future nuclear power plants.

The Network of Excellence SARNET will tackle the fragmentation existing in defining/carrying out research programs; harmonize and improve Level-2 PSA methodologies; ·diffuse the knowledge to associated candidate countries more efficiently;

• bring together top scientists in severe accident research so as to be a world leader in advanced computer tools for severe accident risk assessment.

SARNET aims at facilitating the specialization of the contractors’ research capabilities, notably through the sharing of research infrastructures, equipments and facilities, through joint programs of education and training, and through exchanges of researchers and staff mobility pursuant to specific requirements of the respective national laws/obligations and in coordination with the implementation of national programs.
