Dual results Observation on Concentrating Systems Located in Germany and Italy

Since it is well known that multi-junction (MJ) solar cells are much more sensitive with respect to single-junction device to spectral variation, and consensus on appropriate reference spectrum for characterising MJ concentrator cells has not been clearly developed yet, it is important to deepen the outdoor observations on MJ solar modules in different locations and compare results with indoor characterisation.

For this purpose, outdoor IV measurements on concentrating prototype modules carried out at CESI RICERCA test facility in Italy have been compared to indoor PV performances measured in Germany. The comparison of module data with solar cell starting measurements has allowed to evaluate optical and mismatches losses as well. The CPV modules under test were designed to operate at 705 and 750 X, and were based on single, dual and triple junction cells, adopting Fresnel lenses with a focal length of 85 and 41 mm. Outdoor characterisation has given the experimental evidence that even in not really sunny region, the Low AOD spectrum could be applied as CPV realistic reference spectrum.
