of development along the Italian coasts Maximo Peviani *, Filippo Carli **, Simone Bonamano**, Marco Marcelli ** OWEMES 2009 – Offshore Wind and other marine Energy sources in Mediterranean and European Sea Brindisi, 21-23 Maggio 2009 POSTER SESSION * CESI RICERCA SpA ** DECOS – UNIVERSITÀ DEGLI STUDI DELLA TUSCIA In this paper it is presented a study of the technologies developed for marine energy production and the possibilities of these devices to be applied along the Italian coast. Direct contacts with the leading operators in the sector allowed to assess the characteristics of the principal devices available, the comprehension of the state of advancement of these technologies and the potentialities of real application in the Mediterranean sea. At this stage, to proceed with the energy quantification it is necessary the application of numerical modelling, both for wave propagation and coastal currents, passing from large scale data to medium-local scale ones. As far as wave energy is concern, it is necessary to calibrate the models with the measurements from the RON (Rete Ondametrica Nazionale), that provide a continuous set of wave intensity and direction in the gauge stations. Looking to energy from coastal currents, it is necessary to applied numerical modelling to obtain a detailed hydrodynamic field at local scale, considering the complexity of the Italian coast morphology. Moreover, it is designed and it is going to be implemented an Atlas of the energy availability from waves and currents along the Italian coasts, identifying the most marine energetic sites suitable for electricity energy production.
