water interface Valter Martinotti*, Giovanni Ciceri* XXIII Congresso Nazionale della Società Chimica Italiana "L’energia chimica muove la vita" Sorrento, 5-10 Luglio 2009 POSTER SESSION * ERSE SpA Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) in geologic reservoirs is indicted as one of option for reducing the anthropogenic CO 2 emission in the atmosphere in order to contrast the global warming. It consists in the capture of anthropogenic CO 2 at the plant emission and its storage in deep geologic formation. One of the concern of CCS is that injected CO 2 may leak out of the intended storage formation, migrate to the near- surface environment, and seep out of the ground or into surface water. In this work, the experimental approach and set-up facing the monitoring of the background levels of CO 2 at the sediment-water interface is described. In particular, the characteristics of an experimental system, based on use of benthic chamber, and of an analytical system, based on a flow analysis technique coupled with a micro-conductometric cell, are reported and discussed in terms of applicability and expected results. This approach is now at the optimization level and will be applied in field during the 2009 in two experimental surveys at a specific site located in the Northern Adriatic Sea.
