Impact of the penetration of electric vehicles on the Italian power system: a 2030 scenario

L’articolo riporta i risultati di uno studio sull’impatto sullo sviluppo e sull’esercizio del sistema elettrico italiano di una rilevante penetrazione di auto elettriche al 2030, evidenziandone i benefici in termini di riduzioni per il sistema dei costi, del consumo di combustibili fossili e delle emissioni di CO2.

The paper reports the results of a study concerning the impact on the development and on the operation of the Italian power system of a significant penetration of plug-in electric vehicles with a focus on year 2030. To this aim, a scenario on the deployment of electric vehicles in the Italian market has been defined, together with specific charge profiles, differentiated in terms of concentration of demand in the evening and in the first hours of the night. The study showed that even a significant penetration of electric vehicles does not have a very high impact on the development and on the operation of the power system, even if it has positive effects on the overall CO2 emissions and on fossil fuel consumption. The most significant benefits of electric mobility are therefore most probably the ones related to reduction of air pollution in urban areas.
